Hi,

I decided to order some replacement earphones as mine had broke. The deal is that the earphones are free but you are inclined to provide card details for a £25.00 charge if you fail to return the old earphones. That was fine for me, until today. In the first hour of college, I was threatened - at knife-point - for my iPod, and of course I didn't want to give it up but at the end of the day, it's not worth losing your life over, right?

Well, now I've lost my 60GB iPod video, as well as my earphones. I called Apple, and the earphones hadn't been shipped yet but the rep said they couldn't cancel. So what, I have to pay £25 for the earphones now? I don't have anything to use them on!

This isn't right, right? I can cancel, can't I?

you can cancel, you just need to explain your position and not put the phone down until they agree not to charge you. Get them to transfer you to another person if necessary.

Nope, it's just like when it on www.apple.com says "Processing order", it means it's about to ship, and can't be cancelled. sorry.:)

my view of this is that if you shout and scream loud enough they WILL ensure you don't get charged. They don't want you posting some anti-apple style blog message, that ends up on digg and tuaw do they?!...

dude, no one's gonna care about 25 bucks. I knwo you're a student and all, but though Apple can't cancel, it's not their fault your iPod got stolen. You entered a deal, and Apple can't cancel if they say they can't cancel. Why would they try and trick $25 out of you?;)

Just return the new headphones (you don't need them any more, I suppose) and they won't charge you.

no, you said you were in college, you're the OP right?

I'm a student myself from Denmark.:)

EDIT: Saw you're not the OP. Sorry to call you a student. :p

I realise that it's not their fault, but I was under the impression that I would be inclined to keep the headphones. I asked her if I could send them back but she just said I must send the old ones back... don't think she was listening.

£25 isn't much, but it's an annoying blow to deal with when you've just had a £300 (+ £25 earphones + £20 case) stolen from you. I just don't get why they can't cancel, or accept the new headphones.

Allright, I suppose you could send them back since they're brand new.

All they care about is that they get a pair of recent iPod earbuds back. They're not going to try to refurbish them or anything, that would cost too much and there are sanitation issues. If you are worried about bureaucratic silliness about used vs. new, take the new set out of their little plastic bubble before stuffing them into the return envelope.
