iPod Easier way to replace old tracks with a higher quality one

Hello everyone, I have a giant library of low quality mp3 files that I've been wanting to replace with a folder Apple Lossless files.

I saw a tutorial on this here:

I was wondering if there was an easier way to do this, as I have about 800 songs that I am replacing. Does anyone know of a script or application of some sort that could make this a little quicker and easier?

There are several factors that will determine how complex this process would be.

• Do the new file names match the old file names exactly?
• Is the new folder/file structure organized exactly the same as the old?
• Do the new files have exactly the same tag information as the old, including lyrics and artwork?
• Do you have "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" UNchecked in iTunes > Preferences > Advanced?
• Do you have "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" UNchecked in iTunes > Preferences > Advanced?

If the answer to ALL of those is "yes", you can simply drag and drop the new files/folders over the old, replacing them in Finder.

If the answer to ANY of those questions is "no", you've got more work to do. One method of approaching this process is something like this:

1. Add the new files to the library
2. Clean up tag information
3. View duplicates
4. Sort by bitrate
5. Select the low bitrate files
6. Sort by track name
7. Visually verify you've selected the appropriate duplicate tracks
8. Delete

Ah, the tags aren't identical and I have iTunes organize everything. The main reason it's a hassle is because I want to keep the original date added field.

I've done it before with that link. It just takes too long to do.
