I tend to prefer interesting "sounds" rather than "music" for my ringtone - such as the "Digital" ringtone that comes with the 3G.

what is the easiest way to get some new ringtones? I'm open to creating some from clips of recordings I have, but it would be easier to just find one or two that I like , and simply install them.

here is what i do...

1) in itunes, select which ever song i want to be a ringtone with a right click.

2) go to "get info".

3) select "options" when in song info screen.

4) in the time start/stop section, i set the time frame of the ringtone i want(30 seconds or less). then close info window.

5) select same song with a right click then select "make AAC copy".

6) now you have a 30 second clip in itunes.

7) drag and drop 30 second clip to your pc desktop.

8) right click clip icon on desktop and select properties.

9) change file extension FROM m4a. to m4r.

10) the icon on your desktop should read "ring" now.

11) delete 30 second clip from itune you made earlier.

12) go back to your desktop, double click the audio/ringtone clip.

it will now play in itunes and clip will be located in your "ringtones" section.

PS- this is my very first post on these forums so is this content old?

btw, i realize this looks like a lot of work but it takes me 2-3 minutes(or less) to do and you have full control over the ringtone content.

That's the first time you've seen that? I figured everyone knew about that by now. Anyway, as Floyd said, it's very easy. I've been doing it ever since I got an iPhone. The first thing I did was google to find a way to make ringtones and that method popped up. It takes maybe 2, 3 minutes tops and once you get the hang of it, it is even quicker. The main thing is converting to AAC after you select the time frame of the ringtone and then dragging it to the desktop to rename to m4r. All the rest is pretty much common sense.

Edit: Yes, Haywood Floyd, this content is VERY old, but that's okay.
