I'm not sure what my wife has done but my desktop definitely isnt running like she used to. How can I do a total restore without recovery disks?? I searched the box but cannot find the disks anywhere... Tia folks:D

The install discs are system specific so be sure to get the right ones!

System specific? I thought every compatible OS X disc would do the job.
Buying a OS X Snow Leopard disc in the store wouldn't help either? I thought there was an option to do a clean install, for which the original system disc isn't needed? Would be easier and cheaper...

As in the CD that came with an iMac won't install SL properly on a MBP.

Idk about buying a SL disk from the store.

Isn't a reinstall a bit extreme?
Have you done any fault finding to see what's making your experience different now from when you first used it?
You're not giving much detail as to what the pecieved issue is.

Things to check:

Whats's starting up on boot
Repair permissions
Reset Safari

If you could help us with some more details then we might be able to give advice that doesn't involve reinstalling OSX.
