Easiest way to share a photo between Android and iOS?

What is the easiest way for two people on different phone platforms to share photos quickly? I'm thinking of something as easy as using the iMessage feature in iOS between two iPhones, only with one Android phone involved. Is there any method that is as simple as iMessage when one of the phones is running Android?

Are you both willing to use a third party app? If so me and my buddies use GroupMe. I'm on android as well as another friend while the other 3 are on iphones. We use the groupme app to group chat and send pictures to each other. If you're fine with using another application. You can have it send texts via a number each group gets assigned to as well, but I'm not sure if you can MMS through it too though

Yes, we're willing to install a third party app on each phone. Will GroupMe provide notifications? There are only two of us (my husband and I), so we don't need any fancy group assignments.

Is there any way for DropBox to notify the recipient automatically that a new photo has come in?

Email is too clunky. I don't want to have to type in a subject line for every message and then have the message get lost in the rest of my husband's email.

Facebook is too public and again too clunky...too much tapping to do for each photo. Ditto for Twitter.

I'm not familiar with the others you've mentioned, but if you can tell me that one of them is equivalent to an iMessage exchange (in simplicity and in visibility via a notification), then I'm all ears.
 
Update: GroupMe is perfect! We just tried it, and it's exactly what we were hoping for, so many thanks to aznguyen316 for the very helpful suggestion!
 
Dropbox is just storage, so no notification.

Whatsapp would work if you want to actually send the picture in a text message.
 
I would say Imo is the easiest and most robust way to send photos to other phones.

-It's free.
-It's a cross platform messenger that works on iPad as well.
-You can choose from a variety of accounts like Gtalk, AIM, Yahoo, MSN etc to connect to or get on the Imo network for a new account for each of you.
-The photo sending is dead simple and pain free.
-It doesn't involve being logged in all the time like Whatapp or other SMS alternatives. You can sign out whenever you want or leave it on all the time.
-No need to register your phone number with their servers.

But if none of those matter to you, Whatsapp, Kik, Kakaotalk, and Groupme are the best SMS alternative messengers.

Whatsapp, email, viber, Dropbox, fb inbox etc...

Wait, so GroupMe is actually using SMS? That much I didn't realize. Maybe I should look into Imo. Thanks for the info.

Groupme is using SMS only if you're an outsider to the group and you send an SMS to the group's phone number. GroupMe is basically a mix of SMS and IM for groups. The SMS is for groups, and the DM's are for 1on1.

If you're using GroupMe to send pictures to another single phone, that's fine since its using data in that case, but if you want something that is more robust and data-only, I would suggest Whatsapp as a true iMessage replacement.

Imo is great as well, but it's basically an IM client like Adium or Pidgin for Desktop.

If you want something you never have to log in to or get an account for, Whatsapp is the best thing for all smartphones right now. It's the iMessage of all smartphones, basically.

It will never happen because Whatsapp is tied to a phone number. Unless Apple allows Whatsapp to use the number an iPad is registered to, which I doubt, Whatsapp will never happen on iPad.

That's why Imo is a better choice for iPad users. It's all IM account-based on Imo so it can work anywhere including your desktop web browser.
 
Since Android has USB hosting you can just plug the two together and import all the iPhone photos onto the Android. This is how I back up my photos so I have them on my tablet. Unfortunately due to iOS limitation it only works one way, however there maybe a root work around.....

no Groupme CAN use SMS but if you want, you can turn off sms push and just use in app data.

That would be a great update if Dropbox would included notifies for new uploads. I'm definitely going to contact them to suggest it.
