Anyone who uses GMail can have a notification every time you get a new email, without having to download an app.

(Requires Notification Centre) (OSX Mountain Lion)

Follow the link bellow to set it up.
http://support.google.com/mail/bin/a...r=1075549&rd=1

Or follow mine:
-Open Gmail (in safari),
-Click the gear icon in the upper righthand corner, then select Settings.
-A page will load up.
-Half way down the page is: Desktop Notifications:
(allows Gmail to display pop-up notifications on your desktop when new chat and email messages arrive)
-Select: New mail notifications on - Notify me when any new message arrives in my inbox
-Scroll to the bottom of the page and click save!

When you enable notifications, you'll need to make sure mail.google.com is allowed to show desktop notifications.

----------

(you do NOT need google chrome)

MOD NOTE: The thread has been reposted after we got off topic last time. smoge has provided the steps to enable Notification Center notifications for Gmail alerts. The link provided contains the same steps, even though the link is not referencing Notification Center and requires Chrome.
