After trying various others, i found that iLOL open beta has begun. Just download to begin.

*Note*

As it says on the website, after each patch, make sure that the first game played is a custom game. This prevents any errors in the future.

Been enjoying it on my 2.5 mini:)

If your also looking for people to play/learn with, add me, MikeyL91

Is there some sort of definitive guide for LoL and similar games?

I understand the basic mechanics of how they work as I did try them, but what threw me was the in game SHOP thing, when I tried to ask in game what to buy people just yelled at me to leave the game for being a noob, thus I have no idea what to do with the games like these other than the very basic principles of lanes, creep killing and trying to make it to the other side.

I would recommend playing with other players vs A.I until you level to 18. Youtube is a good place to find tutorials.

I'm sure there's a wiki around or helpful advice on the Riot site or their forums.

A lot of it comes down to experimentation. In the shop, the top right line of items are recommended for your character - sometimes generic, sometimes pretty good. Really can't go wrong. But it just takes time fooling around with a character to figure out what you need to buy. Character is slow? Maybe look into faster attack. Character slow but heavy crit skills? Well, maybe now consider crit+ or both if possible. Character a glass cannon? Maybe look for a defensive build.

I haven't cared to really look at a guide - just figure it out on my own by playing. Has gone fairly well (except the occasional game with a new bot).

This has been posted a fair few times (the OSX version). It works, but performance is a tad lower than native Windows in case your computer is having issues hanging around at a playable level (like mine - can't really 'play' without lag during intense battles in OSX, get 25-45 FPS in WinXP).

Since you're already here you probably like the format of using forums, so check out this one in the Reddit Community, and Reddit has a lot of good LoL players

or you can use Riot's official guide for new players here:

See you on the Fields of Justice Summoners!

ok so once i patched up came up with a error and said its sending the error to the site, then it quits out? now I'm patching again? wtf did i do wrong lol

At times I will get a pop-up with a request to send a bug report, but i would just click no and the game would load just fine. I would try to repatch and see if that works.

Install worked perfect for me.

Only thing tho is halfway thru a game, it starts lagging horribly, so much it becomes unplayable.
I turned all the settings as low as possible.
I did notice tho my fans weren't running as much as they usually were, so maybe next time I try I'll use the smcfancontrol app.
I have 2.3gb ram free when I run it, with no other apps open.
I'm guessing its from heat, but no other game I play gets slow after a while, maybe it was the fans fault...I had to get out of a game right now it was so bad.

Btw, my name is Berdugo in game, incase anyone wants to be friends.
I'm only level 3 so I'm stil quite the newb.

A little lag. But the most annoying part is when i point my mouse to the corners. My expose starts.

Since its Beta and a wine wrapper, its fine.

This is the #1 problem right now, which they are actively working to patch. Please remember that these guys just opened the open beta, and the issues people are having will be fixed!

So you mean its not just because I'm using an integrated gpu?
Sweet! :D

You dont need a high end graphics card to play LoL

A normal integrated GPU that comes with those celeron laptops for 400-500 dollars could handle it easily. Not a demanding game.

So does it get down to 5 fps for other people too around 3/4 thru a game?
The first time I tried to hit cmd+tab but hit cmd+q instead, which caused it to freeze and I had to restart.
If it ever lags that bad, do you just end the game, and get back in after a minute or two?

Id say that with my 2011 2.5 mini, I only lag to the point where I need to try to fix it about 20% of the time. When it does though, its usually when im in a game that is over 45 minutes long, and by that point I just try to finish it out. Hopefully the patch will come out soon!

im in the same spot as u guys ill play the game I put everything to low but on a team fight I'm lagging like a mofo :(.. is that just the program it self, like i play tf2 like no tmrw and it doesn't lag one bit, my fans still run maybe a little hot but she does the job :p

lol hope they fix this if it is the program :)

Because it is still fresh in open beta, these are known problems. A small team is working very hard to put this thing together, and (as far as I know) for no pay. The FPS issue after 20+ minutes in a game is by far the largest issue, so I am sure that will be fixed ASAP. My 2011 2.5 mini runs very hot while playing this as well, which I am also going to assume is because the client is not using CPU, GPU and ram as efficiently as it could. Until about that 20 minute mark, I am usually running 80+ FPS with low settings and 1920x1080 res.

Since I was able to survive playing WoW on my late 2009 mini (2.2 Core2Duo, nvidia 9400m, 4gm ram), which seems like it would take much more overall power to run, I would assume that anyone playing with any machine that is a similar model or stronger would suffice, but I can't back that up.

Don't give up on it if your having bugs, patches are in the works!

Well I have some good news, kinda!

After about 25 minutes last game I was getting laggy, so I decided to restart as soon as I died, since the respawn time was up to 45 seconds. When I got back on my FPS was back up to normal, and I was able to get on without missing any gameplay:)

Might be a little annoying to some, but if all it takes to run without any problems is one restart every half hour, than Im happy!

ok thanks guys...

for me though I'm on my macbook pro, and like i go into a game and its good sometimes it has random lag spikes, but then on a team fight or 3v3 it starts to lag and when its a team fight man it lags like a boss!!!!! to a point i don't move for two seconds and I'm dead :(
hope that they help us soon!!!

So you mean its not just because I'm using an integrated gpu?
Sweet! :D

I run this game in Windows on a laptop that is 5 years older than your laptop with a piss poor integrated GPU without any issue. It does lag in OSX for me, though. It's probably just the wrapper - it's far from perfect, but it is better than nothing.

I installed it on my win7 partition last night in boot camp.
I still only get 30 fps with low setting, which is weird.
On the bright side, I played a 33 minute game with no lag! :)
And I was #1. :D

So until they update and fix it, I'll just play on win7.

iLoL 1.0.3 has been pushed out!
This should fix a lot of bugs (NOT the FPS issue, keep reading)

People wondering about the FPS issue, this is what members have been vaguely told so far about this. I have not had time to catch up on everything, but the FPS issue has to be fixed by Riot as the memory leak problem is on their end.

EDIT: This is a post from one of the mods. Sounds like this is actually already being worked on!

@Everyone
The FPS is meant to be fixed by Riot. There is currently nothing we can do about this. It is them changing the engine, that is also why this issue does not happen on Domination.

Dont forget, if your experiencing the FPS drop and have time to relaunch iLoL in-between deaths, this will bring you back to your full FPS:) Im sure this will take away more game time for older computers, but with my 2011 2.5 mini I can usually get in quick!
