i have both a 3g iphone and a 2g iphone. The 3g iphone has a cracked screen and i'm going to send it in the mail to be repaired, which will probably take a few weeks. The 2g isn't activated right now and i was wondering if there is an easy way to get it working with the sim card in my 3g phone without having to connect to itunes and activate it on my at&t account... jailbreak?

Awesome. I was just getting ready to write the exact same question. I just bought a 2G to use while I'm on vacation instead of taking a chance of losing my 3G.

I don't want to mess up my account and iTunes keeps telling me I will lose my work discount if I continue.

I too would like to know how to be able to use my 3G sim card in both phones.

Just jailbreak the 2G iPhone with pwnagetool, swap the sim and you are good to go. No activation with iTunes needed.

Unlocking is a pain in the butt. I've unbricked the phone but now it won't turn off, it just powers off and reboots every time. My sim card is in it and it still won't recognize it or give me service.

What are the chances if I take this to At&t tomorrow and tell them my situation that they will activate the 2G for me so that I can use both it and my 3G with my sim card? I'll restore the 2G before I take it to At&t obviously.

At&t told me to get bent. Basically if you activate the 2G legitimately through iTunes you lose any discount you have and switch your data plan.

So they essentially just told me I do need to unlock the phone...idiots.
