Title says it all really..

Is it easy to find the iPhone 3G new off the shelf (pay as you go) without the new firmware and thus baseband? I presume they haven't updated stock yet, if I buy one quickly? Any tips as to a good place to order online, or go into the shop and buy the iPhone? And finally - is there anything on the box so you can tell whether it will be good for unlocking without opening it?

Thanks a lot - and merry christmas!

There is no way of telling what baseband the phone has without opening it. It will be a thing of luck.

Check the serial number on the box and work out what week it was manufactured. The 4th and 5th digits are the week number. Find one with the week being prior to the release of the 2.2 update, and you should be OK.

4th and 5th digits? So they range from 00 to 52? I can probably work out when 2.2 was released..

Thanks.
