Wow.. the new mag latch as well as the removeable hard drive rails are truly innovative features. Do you think Apple will bring these good features into their pro lines in the future?

I'm pretty sure they will, the MBP's are definatly transition models and Apple will probably re-design them intergrating these two features in the next revision at the end of this year.

Apple surprised us all with the user accessible HD in the macbook.

I think it will be at least next year before we see a redesigned case for the macbookpro though, but it will come.

I don't necessarily think apple made the HD easy to replace for consumers, but to speed up BTO options in the factory.

Not to nitpick, but the easily removable hard drive is not innovative at all. OK, maybe it is for Apple, but I have some older PC laptops and hard drive removal has always been a snap.

My G3 iBook was "slightly" more complicated to upgrade.

Incidentally, I remember back in the day that the original G4 Powerbook's (TiBook) had user-serviceable hard drives. I never had the good fortune to own a TiBook, so I can't say if the TiBook drives were really easy to replace or not. I'm sure someone who has more experience with older Mac laptops could elaborate. I guess what I'm saying is that the MacBook might not even be the 1st Mac laptop with an easily replaceable hard drive.

For what it's worth, we're planning on getting a 2ghz MacBook to replace the wife's P4 Dell laptop. Can't wait.
