In AppStore is now available EasyTrails GPS 2.1 version, the best GPS tracker for iPhone.

EasyTrails GPS is the perfect application for outdoor sports and everyone willing to track their activities. Whenever you are trekking, running, skiing, sailing, traveling or just wandering around, EasyTrails GPS will turn it into a unique and easier experience.

Went out for a run? Well, EasyTrails GPS can tell you how far, how fast and how long you ran... and much more! It also displays the elevation profile and your track on the map in a street/satellite/hybrid fashion. The results can be stored, so it is very easy to retrieve them at any time to verify your progress.

Tracks can also be exported to a computer and be used with GPS software or shared with others. The app exports your tracks in standard formats (GPX, KML/KMZ and CSV) and can be used with a variety of GPS software including Google Maps, Google Earth, SportTracks (Windows), TrailRunner (Mac OSX) or online services such as Garmin Connect or everyTrail.com.

You can import tracks through an advanced and easy-to-use "sharing service”: import and export tracks has never been easier!

The main new feature of the 2.1 version is that you will be able to use your iPhone even when the GPS signal is weak, because the application uses more advanced GPS algorithms.

EasyTrails GPS is reliable and accurate. The user interface is very straightforward and navigation is made easier with essential menu items. Besides, the chance to record even while the iPhone is on standby ensures the maximum battery life.

Key features:
* Export tracks (GPX, KML/KMZ and CSV).
* Import tracks (GPX).
* Show distance, speed, altitude and much more.
* No limit on length or time for tracks.
* Up to 200 tracks.
* Select between metric, imperial or automatic measuring system.
* Maps (street map/satellite/hybrid).

* Intuitive user interface.
* Lightweight, reliable and accurate.

all of these "tracker" apps, including easytrails kills your battery and can't use it while in the pocket and i don't know about you but when i'm hiking our running or whatever, i am NOT going to have the iphone in my hands the whole time so that the gps will work.

by the way, i must have bought 4-5 of these type of apps including easytrails because i'm an avid hiker, skier, mountain climber, and wanted to "track" my tracks.

but as i said, not practical when used on the iphone

Diesel when I go running and skiing the GPS signal works. Of course you don't put it at the bottom of your pocket/bag, but if you simply lay it inside the pocket it keeps tracks of your trails.
Concerning the battery use Easy Trails doesn't kill it at all. In my opinion that's what makes Easy Trails better than the other GPS Tracker... When it's simply recording the battery used is the same as it's in stand-by...
At least this is my experience of it ;)
Hope this will help you with your activities

I had several of these that I used when Mountain Biking. I just left my phone in either my backpack or my pocket and it would track fine. After a two hour ride it would still have more then 1/2 the battery left. One thing that I did learn and I don't know if EasyTrails does this; is that you have to disable sleep mode. Go into the settings and turn off autosleep so that the app doesn't get put to sleep; then it works perfectly. I don't know if the apps have a way to keep the phone awake.

I would like to see one of these apps take advantage of the BlueTooth GPS receivers you can buy. There are several that are small and could be mounted to a bike or even your shoulder to get better reception while keeping the phone safe. So far, none do.

I've used two different apps while mountain biking as well. Put them in the outer pocket of my camel back and it tracks fine. I turn off push and other fetch email functions and it saves battery and avoids interruptions as well. Never really had a problem with tracking unless I'm in an absolutely remote area - which is rare.

MotionWHAT? Better Easytrails ::cool:

Hey guys do you really believe motionx is better? Don't cheat please...
I can undestand if you talk about garmin and high professonal gadget (of course they are better: they cost 200 times the price of Easytrails... ;) but still you have to pay again for the maps... ) but it's another kinf of hardware...
I really think Easytrails is better for at least two simple reason: it's more friendly and the design is better.
Also gives the chance to have charts and the export is so more easy, even in wifii!
And now I found a rumors about a partenrship with a big website of trails...
so use your loaf folks :cool:

i heard something about everytrail.com... anyone knows when it will be available!?

I've bought EasyTrails, after reading all positive comments here in forum. Honestly, although I have no reason to defend MotionX and I do hate the childish user interface, seems much more complete and accurate program than EasyTrails.

I only just bought MotionX GPS (they changed it back from Sport) and it works more or less flawlessly in my shorts when I go for rides in the bush. It looks to be more mature (maps, contours/terrain, cache, waypoints).

I'll keep this app in the back of my mind, in case.

MotionX or EasyTrails... nice app or top app

I've both MotionX and EasyTrails (and other 4 similar apps, but doesn't compare with these 2)

MotionX it's a nice application, crashes after some time if there is little signal, but in general is a 3 1/2 stars app... a lot of features, nice for short trails where you need to use the compass and have power in 30min from you. At the moment is the one with more features, but I already lost several recorded tracks, in points with little signal.

EasyTrails GPS is a cool professional app, much better algorithms, especially for battery duration, and it's very simple to use, also when I lend to my girlfriend! :D For me EasyTrails is a 4 1/2 stars app, even if I'm still waiting for waypoints, seems they are available only in the update at the end of november (listen, a support team that answers in 1h and often implements features on-demand...! with other apps, a lot of marketing, but you can forget it!)

This works for both, even with kayaking, lemonademaker!

In general, have different use, you cannot compare, but my experience says EasyTrails GPS!

It's been out a long time, works OK. This is the one which I use mostly. I prefer their generic tracker to their Bike tracker; but both work and I have no problems with them... besides they are free.

Okok

Hopefully we are different and we dont like all the same things, I didn't want to hurt noboby, I was just kidding.
anyway I still think EasyTrails is better, even if right now it has less features compared to motionx. To be honest it miss only the waypoints:p:p:p

Only one will survive;):D:D:D

You can get an external battery pack for the iPhone these days for under $50 that will more than double the battery life.

Something like that and a ruggedized case (or a combination battery/case) would be a must if you are going to do long day hikes and want to use an application like this.

I have Motion X and I like it but I might check this application out too.

EasyTrails has an update, I say update, does it's thing, the update is still there. Have tried twice, then installed again, any ideas?

@jmpage2 do you have some links to nice battery pack options?

...today it finally exited the 2.5 that has direct-share to everytrail.com, quite cool!
