The thing with RAM is making sure it works and with your particular machine. For this reason I would only buy from someone who would replace it if it doesn't work. I think I would avoid Ebay personally.

I have used Crucial in the UK in the past. They were very cheap and efficient compared with other suppliers. There are many posts that suggest you should boycott Crucial because their website has a variable pricing system that monitors your buying patterns or something. They may have abandoned this strategy.

I agree, I would be willing to pay a little bit more for RAM that I know will work in my Mac. :)

If you do don't buy from fastmemoryman his is a first class pain, I purchased some RAM and thinking with 75k+ positive feedback that it would be OK, so I got it home and it didn't work, returns are to the USA even though the RAM was shipped from the UK, which to me seems ridiculous, I got angry and thought it was a con, and complained to eBay, and am still (1 month later) waiting for a response as to whether returns to different country from shipping is OK...

Personally I would buy RAM from a responsible seller i.e. not on eBay.

I've had two great transactions with fastmemoryman, but not with RAM.

Overall, I'd insist that if you're gonna buy through Ebay, make sure whatever you're buying has some kind of guarantee on it, either by it being sealed new in box or the seller saying you can return it, that you won't get scrwed.

That's where I bought my RAM for my MacBook...and if you saw my other thread, you'll see it ended with disaster. I was in the middle of a few important projects, and lost them because of kernal panics thanks to defective RAM. Go to NewEgg. They have nice prices. :)

I have done it and would do it again. Just make sure you buy the right RAM and run Rember on it when it arrived.

I'm only really here at night.
I have bought numerous (40+) sticks of ram off ebay for both older macs & peecees, notta problemo......

YOU just have to know how to properly identify the right type/size/speeds etc for your machine. Dont rely on the seller's description, contact them for precise specifications, then do your homework, and be 100% certain of what you are or are not buying :D

OTHO, since newer macs are infinitely more demanding and tighter spec'd when it comes to ram, I would NOT go to ebay for their ram.....

It seems he's fine if the stuff he sends actually works, the delivery was very quick (about 1 day). It's just his customer service is terrible.

Truly an understatement.

Over $6, he quibbled with me for nearly two months. In the end, the PayPal dispute was found in my favor and I received not only the eBay fees he tried to deduct, but also the shipping costs to send it back. This **** charged me for a defective CPU, then had the nerve to file a non-paying bidder strike against me on eBay (so he could have the fees refunded, BTW).

He needs to be drawn and quartered for leaving retaliatory feedback in ALL CAPS and calling buyers "ignorant" -- can you imagine?!

P.S. This is all at http://voxluna.org if you're interested. Or just Google his name... ignoring the self-referencing feedback hits, you'll probably give up after about the eighth page of stories like this.
