Bad news friends.
The Mac Mini that I purchased from eBay went wrong.
The seller listed the Mini as a 2014 model, I received the 2012 model, 4GB instead of 8GB and full of scratches.
I contacted the seller for a return. The seller replied saying he was going to charging me 15% restocking fee.
I replied back saying that I wasn't gonna pay restocking fee for an item that was not listed right and that I received something else instead.
He finally agreed to give me the full refund upon receiving and INSPECTING the computer.
Right now I'm having a bad feeling about it and I'm thinking that he will try to find something wrong with the computer and use that as a reason for not giving me the refund. I'm saying that because of his attempt of collecting restocking fee.
When I asked him why I received something different, he said "It was a system glitch".
If anybody in this forum can give me some advice in case this guy doesn't give me my refund, I would really appreciate.
I'm an Ebay member since 2000 and I have all good feedbacks. I never had a problem but now I'm a little concerned about the outcome.

Many people would say the 2012 is a better computer than a 2014 Mini, particularly if the Mini is a quad-core i7 model. RAM is easily upgraded on the 2012, whereas it's not upgradable at all on the 2014.

As above.... If you used PayPal you should be protected. You can also file a complaint with eBay. Having said that, I personally do not buy from sellers on eBay. At one time it was okay but nowadays there are too many underhanded sellers that are on eBay. It's too bad because there are honest ones there also. But the bad ones are spoiling it for everyone.

I did use PayPal.
Can PayPal or Ebay offer me some kind of protection in case this guy doesn't give me the refund once he received the computer back?

Glad you had the PP protections, only thing more sketchy than eBay sales is craigslist.

Thanks Guys! I feel some relief now knowing that I'm protected. I was having a feeling that I would be taking for a ride with this.
Once this is settled I'll have to find another better way to buy an used but good Mini Mac.

You should be fine, PayPal is very buyer-friendly when it comes to disputes.

I don't know the exact process you have to go through, but the short answer is yes, you should be protected.

This from PayPal:

That's Great!

What’s covered with PayPal Purchase Protection
  • You bought a book, but received a DVD
  • You bought an item described as “new,” but received something that was used
  • You purchased 3 items, but only received 2
  • The item was damaged during shipping
  • The item is missing major parts (that the seller didn’t report)
  • You purchased an item described as authentic, but received a knockoff instead

If the OP is interested, I have a 2012 Mini I'd be willing to part with. It's the i5 Base Model with 8GB of RAM and a 250GB SSD I recently installed. It's been flawless since day one which is 8 yrs ago. The only thing wrong with it is a small light scratch on the upper right part of the Mini if it's laying flat. I did that when upgrading the SSD and did not use a towel or cloth to protect the Mini. If interested PM with an offer and we'll go from there.

PayPal and Ebay might not help you if the item cost over $400. I learned that lesson a few years ago

I Paid $260.00 for the Mini.
Why they couldn't help you einmusiker?

Once I get my money back I'll PM you. Thanks

This is exactly why I spent literally hours searching for the right MBP on there. Got a really decent one, the seller was awesome.
