First off here's what I got. MAC PRO 5,1 Cheese Grater 12 2.6g core, 64m ram. an OWC 240GB Mercury EXTREME Pro 6G SSD 2.5 as my main start up disk running 10.9.4 and the stock MAC 7200 Hard drive running OS 10.8.3. I have Techtools pro 7 on both with e-drives installed on each

Originally I cloned the SSD drive to the 7200 drive with OS 10.8 including all my TONS of expensive software but usually used the 7200 drive as storage and an emergency start up drive. I kept upgrading the OS on the SSD but not the 7200 HD.

This morning I started the old girl up and got a warning that said…"Disk Utilities could not repair this disk. You should backup this disk and reformat it" Referring to the MAC 7200 HD

YIKES, I still tried to repair permissions and do other repairs but it all failed. At first the disk was seeable on the desktop but then vanishes. I tried to start up from it. I shuts down just as it starts up. I tried starting from my TTP E-DRIVE on my SSD and it won't see the 7200 drive.

Funny thing is TTP on the SSD start up drive says the 7200 passed smart tests but it was either grayed out or not there for some of the other TTP tests…Such as the System rebuild.

I am going to try like a few others have suggested and give Disk Warrior tonight.

If I can save it via DW or not I plan/need to replace this drive.

Everything I read says the old mechanical 7200 drives are dead, but I am ols school and love those cheap HUGE 7200 drives.

My questions are….

1) Any advise on recovering function on this drive and how? Short term long term?
2) Should I go ahead and just get another another OWC SSD Drive??? PRICEY!!!
3) Opinions on OWC 7200 HD/SSD Hybrid? AS they are very affordable

Buy a new drive. HDDs are still fine, but your boot drive should be an SSD, preferably on a PCIe interface card like the Apricorn Velocity Solo x2. If you can salvage any files from the HDD. do it and transfer them to the new drive. Then drill some holes in the old HDD and throw it away.

Note - I would stay far away from OWC. IMHO, they sell junk. Get a Samsung SSD, Hybrid from any of the major disk manufacturers, but if it's just for storage an HDD will be just fine.

Swing low....Swing Chariot!

I hit my F--ed Up Mac 7200 HD with DISKWARRIOR before giving up! IT saved my ARSE!

Best $99 I ever spent~

I had no idea!!!

3 Cheers and a TIGER

Sorry My sarcasm even escaped me! LOL! No but seriously..

DISKWARRIOR saved my ARSE last night.

Ran it on the offended HD and it found and fixed what no other program could…. Best $100 I ever spent.

Ran every test I know of after DW did its magic and everything seems to be A OK.

3 cheers and a TIGER for ALSOFT!

I thought the same thing when I saw the title, but decided to let it pass. But you are certainly correct. To use Ebola is any scenario not connected with this terrible disease is simply lacking in human compassion.

And now, rather than apologizing, the OP has the audacity to try and defend his actions. I for one will avoid rantingrich's threads in the future.

That patent is simply for production of antigens for vaccine use and for diagnostic purposes. The US does not hold a patent on any ebolavirus. What it does mean is that if a company wants to make a vaccine based upon this species of ebolavirus, or develops diagnostic tools for it, the US government (i.e., the taxpayer) holds licensing rights. If you don't know what you're talking about, perhaps you shouldn't say anything at all.

"Natural News" is one of the largest quack sites on the Tubes. They wouldn't know a fact if it hit them upside their collective heads, nor can they interpret scientific data, and they are a bunch of liars.
