First off here's what I got. MAC PRO 5,1 Cheese Grater 12 2.6g core, 64m ram. an OWC 240GB Mercury EXTREME Pro 6G SSD 2.5 as my main start up disk running 10.9.4 and the stock MAC 7200 Hard drive running OS 10.8.3. I have Techtools pro 7 on both with e-drives installed on each
Originally I cloned the SSD drive to the 7200 drive with OS 10.8 including all my TONS of expensive software but usually used the 7200 drive as storage and an emergency start up drive. I kept upgrading the OS on the SSD but not the 7200 HD.
This morning I started the old girl up and got a warning that said "Disk Utilities could not repair this disk. You should backup this disk and reformat it" Referring to the MAC 7200 HD
YIKES, I still tried to repair permissions and do other repairs but it all failed. At first the disk was seeable on the desktop but then vanishes. I tried to start up from it. I shuts down just as it starts up. I tried starting from my TTP E-DRIVE on my SSD and it won't see the 7200 drive.
Funny thing is TTP on the SSD start up drive says the 7200 passed smart tests but it was either grayed out or not there for some of the other TTP tests Such as the System rebuild.
I am going to try like a few others have suggested and give Disk Warrior tonight.
If I can save it via DW or not I plan/need to replace this drive.
Everything I read says the old mechanical 7200 drives are dead, but I am ols school and love those cheap HUGE 7200 drives.
My questions are .
1) Any advise on recovering function on this drive and how? Short term long term?
2) Should I go ahead and just get another another OWC SSD Drive??? PRICEY!!!
3) Opinions on OWC 7200 HD/SSD Hybrid? AS they are very affordable
