Edge Displays For Everyone!!!

One major advantage of being a true OEM is that you actually invent core technologies that allow you to be on the cutting edge and a leader in your industry. There's no doubt Sammy's edge displays are a clear example of this. Well now it seems other manufacturers want a peice of that tech. Expect to see more edge displays in the near future.

What ever happened to the LG Flex? I thought that phone was going to be a huge seller. I remember playing with it in a store years ago and was impressed.

Agreed - until bendable screen comes around! Tried a S6 edge a long time ago - a bit weird to get used to but really slick idea!

I figured when I first saw the S6 edge a year ago, others would eventually copy Samsung within 18 months. Seems alot sooner. All those times Samsung gets labeled a copycat. Now they are setting design trends...

It can depend on how far this actually spreads, as some cheap(ish) copycat devices from "off"brand manufacturers really doesn't represent a design trend aside from them just trying to capitalize on whatever popularity and marketing Samsung carries basically.

I was never a fan of the edge. Aesthetically, it looks amazing, but for holding the phone it isn't so great. I tried playing with it multiple times in Best Buy and carrier stores, but I just didn't like the feel in hand. The edges are so slim that there isn't anything to hold on to.

Leading Chinese OEMs like Huawei and Xiaomi will soon be aping Samsung's edge display when Samsung has been long criticized for ugly designs, cheap build quality, and being an Apple copycat. The screen innovations usually come from the South Koreans TV makers in Samsung and LG.

The curved screen is very cool, but ultimately just a gimmick. I don't think it makes them a leader, just another company throwing out gimmicks like Apple with 3d touch and that awful LG flex. They are trying to invigorate a stale market. Personally I can't wait for foldable screens, that's where the true revolution lies. The first to market with a truly usable foldable screen will truly be cutting edge and a leader.
