Will my 2G iphone be able to get mobile internet if I set it up to 3G network?
Basically there's a new company in Dublin called 3ireland.ie that offers cheap 3G mobile internet 1GB for €10 per month. I currently pay €30 for mobile internet per month. Since i am on a Jailbroken (unlocked) iphone i could theoretically buy the cheapest phone from 3ireland and insert the sim from 3ireland phone into iphone and use it.
The question is whether 2G iphone based on EDGE will be receiving internet from 3G network?

You will be able to pick up the internet, but you will only get EDGE if it is supported by your network (if it is a new 3G network, it is doubtful that there would be EDGE support), otherwise you will get GPRS speeds which are similar to dial-up.
