Cuz u probably live in a area where EDGE aint available, its EDGE or GPRS. I cant have EDGE either ;)

Well in about 3months of having my iPhone ive probably seen the edge logo maybe twice, that cant be right?!

It depends on the hardware at the tower. Pretty much anything new-ish can be upgraded in software, but older systems need to be swapped out. If a particular cell doesn't see much use, there's no strong reason for them to switch out the hardware until it starts getting saturated or the older hardware breaks down. There's also a market for selling older GSM switches to China, and other countries that are still deploying 1G, but there's not a lot of money in it.

This is going to happen again shortly when LTE comes out. LTE can be software upgraded onto very new 3G switches, but anything older will have to be swapped. So you'll see this slow movement of LTE out from the city centers where they add the latest cells.
