I tried installing nano to edit files via terminal. Seems nano or pico is not supported on macs or not intel macs anyways.. What is everyone else using as I need to setup apache 2, php5 and mysql for testing as well as rails.

Fink, http://fink.sourceforge.net, will let you install Pico and Nano I believe.

Did Nano or Pico not come pre-installed? Both did on PowerPC macs. As well as emacs, vi.
PPC Macs do not have pico installed. By default pico was setup as an alias for nano.

But back to OS X Intel. Can anyone else confirm that nano is not bundled with the OS? That would seem very strange to me.

GNU nano 1.2.4 is installed on Intel Mac's

Sorry for this mix up. I did not know it was pre installed. I tried installing it and it failed.

I have 10.4.6 and I appear to have nano, Emacs, and VIM installed.

I haven't tried it out in single user mode though.
