I'm trying to edit a pdf file via Preview by adding an image (meant to be a cover). But the odd thing is, once I drag the image to the thumbnail sidebar, the image suddenly scales down and creates a border. I uploaded a screen shot to show you what I mean:

The one on the right is the image that I dragged to the pdf thumbnail sidebar on the left.

Any idea how to fix this so that I get the image without the white boarder?

Have you tried to export the image as a pdf (in Mojave this is also a Quick Action) and then dragging the new pdf into the document as a cover? Should fix the border issue, unless the image aspect ratio doesn't match the paper ratio.

A quick test shows that the image creates borders and the pdf does not for me, so hopefully it works on your end.
