Education Discount

Hi there! I'm going to California next month and since there are a bunch of Apple Stores down there, I was thinking on buying a Macbook for myself. I am a College Student here in Europe and I have one of those International Student ID cards. Do you think they will let me use it as proof to get an education discount? Do you think that if they deny me on one store I could (maybe) have a chance in another one?

i dont know about the USA, but here in Australia, its hard to get a student discount anywhere but online. They offer free shipping as well, so you have nothing to lose by getting it online.
 
The rules on in store educational discounts are unclear at best. You get a different answer depending on who you talk to and I think Apple changes their policy about it a lot.

Short answer: Just try it, can't hurt.
 
I'm not sure whether the ID would work here in America, but you'd be better off getting it in Europe since you can bank on the 3 years of Apple Care for free that we don't get here in the US. But anyways, if you are an American student you can go into the Apple Store and get hardware for the education discount, just not software.
 
Also, keep in mind if you buy it at an Apple store here, you'll be stuck with the american keyboard.
 
Try the Apple store in Costa Mesa (South Coast Plaza), they are always very nice and helpful/generous. They gave me discount when I was not even a college student. I am not originally from the US (I came from Taiwan to study) so I do not think they care that much?

The store in Manhattan Beach is not very good.
 
I have a student ID from a Canadian university and just recently went down to the US for a little trip. I walked into the Apple Store in New Hampshire and asked if my ID was valid for the educational discount and they said it was fine, and that their policy just recently changed to allow this.

So, it worked for me and hopefully the policy applies everywhere but YMMV depending where you go.
 
I don't really think they even care, at least over here at the Oakbrook store - they barely even look at my student ID. It's probably different everywhere you go.

Free shipping? Even overseas?
 
I know, but you see, I went to the SoHo store in NY and the guy told me my international student ID was not valid because I had no way to proof I studied in the US and that the Education Discount was ONLY for student residents in the US. This when I know of people who don't study in the US and have gotten the discount. so I think that the guy who told me was a jerk

Illogical conclusion. It is possible that those who did receive the educational discount did so illegitimately and/or inadequacy of the vendor/seller.

Haha! Just buy one at full price its still a massive saving!

UK MBP 17" STD = £1899 ($3508)

US MBP 17" STD = £1514 ($2799)

Even without a student discount you're saving almost £400, and I for one would be more than happy with that. If you're not happy with that then grow some balls go into one of the shops and ask if they accept your card. If they do then you're going to make a great saving, if not youve already saved £400 anyway. (its a win win situation, its just a case of how much you win bye)
