Hey all,

I will be purchasing a Macbook Pro this summer for school, and im not sure whether i should buy now, while they have the $100 rebate on printers going on, or if i should wait until they have some different deals in the summer.

I will probably need a printer anyway, so im tempted to buy now (or before July 17th). But as always, the prospect of something better in the future has kept me from doing so.

What is your advice? Maybe someone can shed some light on what the deals will be in the summer, as Apple usually does a 'back to school' deal or something in july or august.

Thanks!

Are you in need of an iPod?

Apple usually has a summer deal (usually starts in late June) which gives you $180-$200 off the price of an iPod with an educational purchase of a new Mac. The promo has gone by various names over the years such as Cram & Jam or Student Union...

See thats another thing, i already have a 30gb 5th gen, so the printer is worth more to me at this stage.

What are you gonna use it for? If you want the printer now, the rebate is always a good thing, but you can always wait to see if you get a better deal later on. The previous post was right. Usually Apple bundles their computers + iPods for rebate offers for back to school time.

If you're a cautious buyer, waiting won't hurt. You can wait for rev B 15" and 17" and more apps should be universal binary. That didn't stop me, though, I love my MBP.

Well i suppose the printer isnt so important, but while theres a rebate for one...

It'll be used for graphics work, and playing games under windows :D
..Along with the regular school stuff under OS X.

BTW, ill be getting the base 2.0/1gb/256mb version.

When i purchased my Powerbook (sept 05) they had 180 for a ipod (so you can get a mini for free), AND the $100 off any printer, which they still have..

My assumption is they will still have the printer rebate for awhile, or it may be 180 off of a ipod and only $50 off the printer, but you can sell the ipod if you alredy have one, or sell yours, and be saving more money..

again.. there is no gurantee that the deal will occur or if the printer deal will still be avail for awhile..so it's a bit of a risk. :(

Just a reminder, FCP and iLife apps are universal. Photoshop, creative suite are not. They will run slow under rosetta on the MBP.

Get it now! I'm a bad influence. But the MBP is the finest computer I've ever worked on. It's a beautiful thing.

What do you usually use yours for?

We have a heterogeneous environment at work, so I user my MBP to terminal into our vast arrays of file servers and controllers in Winblows and IRIX. It's nice to have office on the mac side too, but it's an older version and it runs under rosetta which runs just ok. I also use the typical iLife stuff and iDVD is surprisingly faster on the MBP than my old 15 PB. On the winblows side, I use MATLAB and MS Project with an occasional quake game here and there. But mostly I am an internet junkie.

It's just nice to have one machine that does it all.
