MBA 13" 128 SSD for £950 or

MBP 13" 128 SSD for £1150

Which is more future proof? :)

Same Problem

MBP 13" 128 SSD for £1150

I'm actually in a similar dilemma. I've had the 11" Air for several months now, but I am currently in the process of selling it. It is an absolutely wonderful machine, but I spend so much time in Excel that I'm finding the screen and keyboard size to be very limiting.

Now I'm torn between getting the 13" Pro or an updated 13" Air. (Assuming the new Air's release soon.)

Also...

Here are the current Pros and Cons from what I understand...

13" Pro

-Size
-Graphical Power
-Slightly more Expensive (w/SSD)
+Built in Super Drive
+CPU Speed
+Better battery life (slightly)

13" Air

-CPU Speed
-No Super Drive
+Price (SSD as Standard)
+Better Graphical Power
+Size

For me the HD3000 in the Pro makes the choice difficult.

Some people consider the lack of superdrive a +...
Well to be honest, I bought my MBA after the MBPs were announced.
Core2duo Nvidia combo is just plain amazing. I have had no problems whatsoever with CPU speed.
All I do in my computer is browse, music, starcraft 2, minecraft, mail, and documents. (a little heavier than a typical user) and I can still pull it off.

I'd love the new air assuming it gets a dual core i5 and 4th ram as standard

However it's that processor which ruins it for me. However what if apple instal the intel3000 in the air and remove nvidia :(

Owwwwww

Barring a miracle, new MBAs will have the HD3000 in them.

So what kind of processor would you expect?

One that fits in the dimensions available.
One that consumes power at a rate that doesn't compromise battery life.
One that runs fast enough to meet most consumer's needs while at the same time not generate too much heat.

Great comparison, cnixon.

Add to that the fact that the 13" Air has a Higher Resolution Screen compared to the pro. (1440x900 vs 1280x800). That alone would make the 13" Air better for Excel, assuming you could read what was on the screen.

Thanks. I completely forgot the differences is resolution. For some reason I keep wanting to lean towards purchasing the Pro, but the Air has the edge in so many ways.

I sympathize with TC.

So what kind of processor would you expect?

i5 17W in the 11", there's been numerous threads about it, don't know which exact processor though.
i7 25W in the 13", again, don't know about the model but it'll be something like this.
Obviously those are just rumors but it makes sense, removing the nvidia 320m, makes it possible to exchange the 10W cpu c2d processor in the current one and replace it with the 17W snb i5 processor.
the 17W c2d in the current 13" can probably be replaced with the 25W snb without raising the TDP of the air.

Edit:
Core i7-2649m 25W @ 2,3 ghz for the 13"
Core i5-2537 17W @ 1,4 ghz for the 11"
- These are what I'd expect. At least the 2649 as a bto config just like the 2,13 ghz is now with the 13" ultimate.
