I have an Eero pro 6 (last years mode). Any reason to upgrade to 6e?

How many 6E clients do you have, or plan to get? What is your ISP speed? 6E can definitely top out >1Gbps, but only if your internet provider is offering you 2Gbps or greater.

a few MacBook Pros, several iPad Pros, a few Apple TVs, of course several iPhones. ISP I have 500 but for an up charge I can upgrade to 1gb. I have an Eero 6 pro but would possibly upgrade to a 6e router.

No AppleTVs nor iPhones have 6E. Only 2023 Macs and the lastest-generation iPad Pros.

Since 1Gbps is the fastest available, the scenarios where you'd see/use the faster speeds of 6E (vs. what you have today) seem rare or non-existent.

is it worth upgrading from 500 to 1 gb internet and keeping my current router?

If you're just surfing the web, probably not. Most CDNs/websites only send content at around 200-400Mbps, max.

If you're downloading huge game files, torrents or other file transfer activity, then possibly.

In other words, if nothing is feeling slow today, going from 500-1000Mbps probably won't be noticeable.
