why does the latest Mac Mini EFI Firmware Update keep re-appearing in my software updates in Lion 10.7.3 on my Mac mini Server 2011.

i've tried installing it over and over again but it keeps appearing in the updates list. i also downloaded it manually at apple.com and installed it. it still keeps coming back in the list.

is anyone else experiencing this?

...same problem here...

Every time installing it, it leaves an entry in the installed software-log, but according to this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237 the EFI 1.6 is not installed, yet (Boot-ROM-Version is "MM51.0075.B00" instead of "MM51.0077.B10")

I even tried to download and install it manually - didn't help...

While rebooting after install everything starts up just normal. Shouldn't there be some special progress-bar or so for actually updating the ERPOM?

hey losty, welcome on board.

have you done any modifications to your mac?

i have build in a new ssd by myself as a system drive for the OS but i'm not sure that's what is causing this issue.

any other people with this problem?

I run Windows 7 on the internal disk with MBR partitioning scheme. Am using an external RAID 1 (MBR) with OS X Lion for the odd occasion I need to do updates.

Had this same problem - it did not install. In my case it was because the internal disk was not formatted in GUID but MBR instead. I reformatted the internal disk to GUID and it installed happily afterwards.

(PS It is not necessary to have OS X installed on the internal disk, I was able to boot from an external RAID1 (MBR). )

Afterwards I repartitioned the internal disk back to MBR and restored Windows 7.

I suspect that on the odd occasion it can happen if you have a non-Apple SSD inside.

well... it seems like it even happens if you actually have an apple ssd inside...

You guys actually installed the EFI installer.. Turn off the mini and press and hold the power until you hear a loud beep. From there it will start installing the EFI

thanks T4R06 but i think your wrong. yes, i tried.

all previous firmware updates installed just fine and without any bonus button pushes or whatever up untill this one. it's clearly a compatibility issue.

having the exact same problem on my Mac mini server 2011. I'm using one of the OCZ octane drives instead of the stock HD, but it seems to be happening regardless. Any answers?

No luck with that press-and-hold-hint here either... :-/

...and BTW: I have an...

APPLE SSD TS256C:

Kapazität: 251 GB (251'000'193'024 Byte)
Modell: APPLE SSD TS256C
Version: CJAA0202
[...]
Partitionstabellentyp: GPT (GUID-Partitionstabelle)

...SSD installed.

Bumping this thread in the hopes somebody else sees it.

Still having this problem as of mid-April 2012.

Frustrated!

Try resetting PRAM cmd,option P,R
Or press and hold power for 10 secs when booting.

Then if appears try downloading the EFI firmware again

If it is a standard hardware configuration and a standard software installation and it will not install then the only conclusion to be made is that there is something unfathomable wrong with it. As such I would contact Apple and have them look at it which should be done under warranty.

in the same boat still. I have no idea what the other person is talking about, but apparently he/she got a "'Software Update' update" of some sort.

I'm still flummoxed by this firmware issue...

exactly.

i don't even think this software updater-update exists?
something like this for sure hasn't ever shown up in my updates list.

but why would anyone make up such stuff? i really want a solution!!! i want my mac clean and tidy. that stupid EFI updated keeps popping up in my dreams. argh!
