Egg Money/Discounts/Refurb store etc

Am poised to buy a PB, I have the Egg Money card, I also have a plastic 10% discount card issued by the Apple Store in London. I also have a £23 money off online Apple discount.

I am aware if I buy through the Egg Money site then I will not be able to use the Apple discount card. On the other hand if I go to the store at Bluewater, then I will not 'qualify' for the Egg Money discount, but will be able to use the Apple card.

Anyone think of anyway I can use both sources at the same time??

I've brought stuff from the Apple online store without following the Egg money links...... and got the 10% instant cashback. In fact I was surprised to find when ordering some photo-books from iPhoto that I also got the 10% instant cashback.

My advice would be to use your discounts on the online store and pay on your Egg Money and see if you get the 10% cashback.

From what I am seeing I would suggest that Egg are just 10% cash-backing anything from Apple-online..... but that's no guarantee obviously.

Thanks Sreedy, but that is the problem, the discount I have from Apple is a physical plastic card that I cannot use online. I would have to buy in-store to benefit....thereby technically defaulting the Egg Money cashback?

If so then sounds like you'll get pretty much the same deal either way... though you could still get the extra £23 off online. I doubt you'd be able to take advantage of both offers.

The small print on the Egg site says you have to use their link, though this isn't true because I bought my iMac from the refurb store without clicking their link and still got the Egg cashback.

So you could go online and use the £23 discount, then you'll get 10% instant cashback and a further 2% in March (in case you didn't know you get 2% cashback on all purchases instead of the usual 1% at the moment). However, bear in mind that if you change your mind and want to return an online purchase there is a £60 charge to cover transportation costs. You'll also probably have to wait a week or so for it to arrive. If you're buying a stock PB you could just forget the £23 off and get it in-store and use this 10% discount card. You'll still get the other 2% cashback.

Personally, for the sake of £23, I would rather buy in-store... just makes any potential return easier in case of any problem.

The card upon reading the small print, says it is for a one of purchase in -store of any Apple products, and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. I obtained this 'gift card' from a high up Apple source as a result of bad customer service about a year ago.

Then maybe I will get the Egg discount of 10% or at least at worse the 2% standard cashback offer. This also as you say gives the added security of being able to return any defective machine etc to the local store *touchwood, this will not happen!

Yes, pay with the Egg card and you'll definitely get 2% cashback. I'm fairly certain the 10% cashback only applies to online purchases... but you never know... it would be an amazing deal if you got that too!

You haven't mentioned which PB you're thinking of getting... if it's the 12 inch (which wasn't updated recently) you could wait til Wed to check out the refurbs store. Last time I looked they had the 12 inch (with SuperDrive) for something like £949... and you *would* get the extra Egg discount on that. Plus you could still use the £23 off from the Apple email. Depends if you're willing to gamble on a refurb and if it's the 12 inch that you're after.

If you're going with the new 15/17 inch I'd definitely buy in-store, in case of the "lines" problem that people seem to be reporting...

Well agreed, but it's worth a try, I recall someone buying from the Refurb store and somehow pasting in links to get the Edu. discount, and the Egg discount so there is nothing to be lost.

I have considered for weeks the Refurb store and both 12" & 15" models, again I would get the discount(s) and could maybe get a 20" Cinema Display instore to use the 'gift card' - but knowing I can get a discount on an updated brand new PB - I don't think I want to take the chance, though it was tempting last week as they had a 15" PB with 1 GB Ram quite cheap.

It is the 15" that I am after in my heart, and as I posted last week I looked carefully at about 6 PB's at the Bluewater store and failed to see any line issues. Another poster seemed to think this issue had been resolved of late.

ps The Bluewater store is absolutely fantastic for service and access to the products, compared to the over busy Regent Street store.
