I'm new to the egpu thing, so I apologize if these questions have already been answered a billion times.

I have a 2017 5K iMac. If I connect a compatible AMD gpu via an Akito Node, does it to have a second monitor. And if it does require the 2nd monitor and I ran premiere on my iMac with my EGPU connected, and if I drag my premiere window onto the main imac display, will premiere still take advantage of the eGPU. Thanks in advance.

I just connected an egpu kit to my 2017 5K iMac. So far, it works with a second monitor. I did not succeed to use it without it. Here is my kit : Nvidia Titan XP (OC +117 Core and +500 Memory) + Sonnet eBreakaway Box 550.

I do not have any answer for your second question. I just know that a huge drop in terms of performance is expected if you use an egpu kit on your main iMac display.

I mainly use my kit with Windows/Bootcamp and it works quite well. However, as expected, a performance drop is observed. My overclocked Titan XP corresponds approximately to a non overclocked 1080Ti (maybe slightly inferior). I bought it because it was a used one with a good price.
