Hello I did buy a Mac Pro 6.1 2013 “trash can” for very good price around 400$.
It is 10 core 64gb RAM , was free of dust but I cleaned it anyways.

I will use my Mac for web browsing stuff , VM’s , booting from external drives , some Microsoft office stuff , write some code , and run some python scripts for automate tasks, also some photoshop rarely for editing pdf documents. Also gaming on Nvidia GeForce Now who is an online streaming gaming service.

The GPU’s it has is D300’s.
My main concern is if something happens on my GPU’s I’m ****ed.
So I’d rather connect a new egpu and have my head in peace. I’m also sure that my performance overall would be better with a new gpu.

Is a bitch to find a good gpu enclosure so I probably would build my own , except if I find a good deal.

My eGPU would be AMD for sure.

My main question what’s the best amd gpu that my machine can run and can find drivers easily etc etc. Graphic cards are in good prices right now so I wanna put something good on it not crazily expensive

I used a blackmagic gpu 580 with my 6.1.

Purge Wrangler is deprecated

the replacement is called Kryptonite and requires OC or OCLP to work

Kryptonite will install an old version of LILu so you need to manually update that file to the latest version.

Every time you update the OS it will wipe Kryptonite so you need to reinstall it and also the LILu patch.

If using an OS newer that Monterey you will need to disable internal GPUs.

Personally I only saw marginal gains from using the EGPU with FCPX

I was thinking about 580 too and probably will choose this.

Can’t find a regular enclosure , only from aliexpress etc.

Yeah I’m running the latest os.

What you think about what I’m thinking ?? I’m mainly wanna connect an eGPU for longevity. Are there any chances my regular gpu will be damaged if I use it continuously ?

I’ll probably pull the plug and build it , I like the design of this machinery I wanna keep it alive.

Look on Ebay for the Blackmagic Vega 56, performance wise, it is better.

The problem with the 6.1 is thermal degradation. If used hard for video rendering then I guess you may experience problems over time.

I had issues with condensation and corrosion inside the case, when I lived close to the sea. It was repaired by Apple a couple of times in its life. (I bought it in 2014!)

will not use it for video rendering not even close, just managing my systems vua vM's and do daily driver stuff.
This egpu its gpu is included but it costs more than my machine lol
As far as thermal degradation , an air cooler is hitting it , and soon enough gonna be place on a room with air condition

I have a second hand Razer Core case with a second hand RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary.

If you want a test, just tell.
