Hi;
I accidentally shut down my iMac while troubleshooting my UPS. Now my EHDs won't mount.
Any help is much appreciated. I'm running 10.13.6 on a mid 2011 27" iMac.

Try a different port on your iMac. Try on another computer to see if they will mount. Just a couple suggestions.

After an "unsafe" shutdown, macOS will run a full fsck on your external drives. On larger volumes this can take a while, I've seen it take over an hour before.

Disconnect all the external drives.
Reboot.

Connect ONE of the external drives.
If it doesn't mount, try "just waiting a while", 30 minutes or a bit longer.
As master said in reply 3 above, the OS will try to repair an "unmountable" drive, but it can take some time.

Does this help?
If so, dismount the first external, try it on the NEXT external, etc.
One-at-a-time...

Hi;

I have reset both the SMC and the PRAM to no avail. The EHDs work on my other Macs.

Upon further investigation I found that the USB port I was using appears to be not responsive. The other ports seem to be fine. A further note, my EHDs are connected to a USB hub that is connected to the USB port on my iMac. That set-up has been working fine for years.

So, the real issue is what to do about the unresponsive USB port?

I'm wondering if the "problem port" has suffered from internal "wear and tear" that interferes with a proper "physical connection"...?

Do the OTHER USB ports still work?
