ejecting a disk in space

just found this short vid on an old Mac portable.

It has one of those motorized floppy disk drives that eject the disk automatically when dragged into the trash. remember them??

here's what happens in zero gravity!!

Wow, that was awesome.

Although I'd fear using my Zip750 drive in zero-G--that thing hacks disks out like nobody's business. You could hurt yourself if there was no gravity pulling the thing downward.

My dad's old black plastic G3 Powerbook spitting out a PC card SD reader in space. Yes, it does fire it across the table already. Now THAT... ...would be amusing. ;)

I think it depends on if there's the dust protection fuzz stuff on the drive or not. I don't think it would go very far from my PB. But I wonder, if you used a tray-loading drive, would you have to use those little tabs that some drives have on the tray? would you be screwed without them?

I think the tabs are there to keep the disc from falling out while closing the tray if the tray is vertical, so maybe they'd help a bit in space. Not that I have the means to test this...
