So when I open up Firefox, two things pop up - 1) a little window with the Firefox icon and an arrow leading to the applications icon, and 2) (what I think is a) drive icon with the Firefox icon imposed on it goes to the desktop.

I've dragged the Firefox icon from the little window to the application part of Finder, then ejected the little Firefox icon and restarted, but it still happens.

How can I make it stop?!!

Thank you in advance!

Does this happen if you open Firefox from the Applications folder directly? In other words, are you opening it from the Dock? If not, you might want to drag the icon from the Firefox Dock and then drag the app from the Applications folder onto the Dock. :)

That worked! Thank you!

... but WHY did that work? What did I do wrong? (I know, but I just like to know why!) :)

You can't eject Firefox. You can only eject the disk image that contains the Firefox application.

What you didn't do (and it's quite common) is to drag the Firefox application from that window into the /Applications folder. When you look at the window that contains it, notice the arrows pointing from Firefox to the /Applications folder? That's supposed to suggest that you drag it and where to drop it.

Things happen. Hopefully, that will be the worst of your problems. :)

The icon you were launching Firefox from was from the disk image. As such, every time you launch Firefox using that icon, the disc image, .dmg, must be mounted. By pulling the alias from the Application folder, you no longer need the disc image. You can delete it as a matter of fact.

Ohhh, okay - that makes sense.

Thank you all for your help!
