Hey all,

Has anyone else had issues with the HTML 5 player in Safari 9 on El Capitan?

For example, if I try to full screen a stream on Twitch.tv, the video stays the same size as if it wasn't full-screen and just sets a black background around the edge of the video.

I need to use the pop-out player and make that full-screen, and even then it's got the grey header bar at the top...

Just me?

I've never used twitch.tv before but i never have had that issue with html5 video. I just went to twitch.tv and selected a random channel and am not experiencing the issue you described. The video is completely fullscreen for me. :-/

A much better option for Twitch is Livestreamer. You can play the stream through VLC and get a true source video. El Capitan makes it even better because you can pop out chat and use split screen to watch both.

That's excellent advice Zx - thank you.

I'm just reimaging back to a fresh image of El Capitan and I'm going to not add my Safari profile from iCloud and see if that solves it. I am stumped otherwise

It's an issue with their new HTML5 player. The same issue exist in different browsers and on Windows.

However, I have never seen a grey header when using fullscreen on the pop-out player. Not sure what's up with that.

Another option similar to zx629 which I usually use to stream Twitch: youtube-dl through mpv.

Just install Homebrew and then mpv and you stream Twitch through Terminal with source quality like this:
Code:
mpv --ytdl-format=Source http://www.twitch.tv/riotgames

I have mpv installed (I downloaded it from http://sva.wakku.to/~chris/mpv_builds/

I also downloaded youtube-dl and installed it according to this website: http://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/download.html and I am pasting your command on terminal but it says "-bash: mpv: command not found"

Yep, it's because mpv doesn't exist in /usr/

It's much easier if you install mpv through Homebrew. It will automatically install youtube-dl as well.

Can you please tell me how to do a fresh install of El Capitan without adding the Safari profile from iCloud? Every time I do a fresh install it loads up the Safari profile then I go to iCloud and have to uncheck "Safari." I'd rather not load it to begin with.
