im considering using bootcamp to install Windows 10 on my iMac. Is this risky whilst I run the beta of El Capitan, or will it have no bearing?

One serious bug should be considered when trying to do this.
El Capitan boot camp assistant will fail to remove your Windows partition if you don't want that Windows installation. And you will likely end up with backing up your Mac OS X and format the whole disk to bring everything back to normal.

was just about to say the same.

and also, what started a big chain of events....
mac crashing under bootcamp>bootcamp not removed>reinstall losing recovery partition>time machine reinstall losing sound......

if you have too old a mac to get bootcamp 6 with the official windows 10 support, disable the apple hfs+ driver straight away before you do anything. if i knew that id not have wasted a week of my life on a sequence of unrelated problems.

Yep. Mac hfs driver breaks my third party driver. And I need to reinstall it to enable read/write again.

Luckily, I don't encounter too many issues. However, yeah, my recovery partition is "gone" so I cannot use find my Mac any longer. It is still there and I can boot to it but iCloud panel doesn't recognise it.

This is why you should just be test driving the Beta (ideally on a spare/old Mac) & not using it for production work. Spending a week sorting out issues caused within Beta software? Screw that.

i agree. its too easy to want to see the new software, but when you are running el capitan beta on your mac, new windows on bootcamp, ios 9 beta on your ipad, you see why they are betas. for me now, ill wait. it literally was a week. if you look on my posts youll see i dont post much about problems, and i was literally a new thread every day.

if only when i posted about windows 10 crashing id read about disabling the driver.
instead i wiped my bootcamp partition.
didnt regain the space. spent hours trying to get the space back.
reformatted.
recovered from time machine. takes hours.
lost my recovery partition.
tried for hours to get that back.
noticed i didnt have sound and had no way of getting it back. spent an hour trying to.
reinstalled but had to go back to lion.
reinstalled yosemite
realised that this meant i couldnt get files direct from time machine but then realised i still could through the finder.
reinstalled ALL of my apps.
copied across all my windows games again through usb 2..hours...

all good now.

Do yourself a favor a never ever , ever install any betas. It's like 9 out of 10 times it works great, and then that 1 time comes around and screws EVERYTHING up :)
