I have noticed El Capitan crashing now it seems frequently, and I am trying to determine whether it's a kernel panic or what. I observed that often when it occurs I clicked on a video or photo while browsing with Firefox. I also noticed sometimes on startup it crash when it's loading user profile. I captured this from Console and wondered whether anyone can interpret if possible the events that interrupted the CPU...VirtualBox wasn't running.

I doubt your updating the firmware has anything to do with it since at least three persons, which include me, has brought up the crash issue especially after upgrading to 10.11.6 and these persons have different types of Mac platform.

El Capitan startup trouble happened for me a few days ago on my old MBP but this fixed it:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

Hope it stays that way.[/QUOTE

Thanks Brian...I am a Mac veteran and know of this since the days of MacOS 7.5. I also have a virgin 10.11.6 partition where I can run Diskutility's first aid on my main partition.

My imac crashed alot yesturday.

just locked up could move mouse but not click anything or open the dock (it set to auto hide).

Had hold power button to turn off.

After 5 crashes it was fine again for rest of day.
Quite annoying.

Yes, mine does that some days...I recently download and installed EtcCheck...discovered couple Apple processes failed for insufficient memory although never had what I am experience when I had 10.11.5...even having below average performance with 10.11.6
