Hi guys,
I tried to search but couldn't found anything similar. Excuse me if I missed.

Altough I am computer engineer and working in Enterprise IT for almost 10 years, I bought my first ever Macbook last weekend. My target is development using Swift (I think its the better choice for a new one who has to learn language first). In the last 4 days, I learned a lot (hopefully) using google and forums. I am mostly using Apple's own applications (only exceptions are Evernote and sometimes Chrome/Firefox)

After all those background information here is my question. Should I move to El-Capitan and start out my journey with it? Split view, better performance/battery life and new Notes application is what is attracting me about it.

I did started with Chrome but then realized its a battery drainer, so I switched to Safari. I think its best to use Apple's own applications wherever possible, so I would like to change Evernote (I don't need to clip from web) with Notes. I can buy MS Office for 9$ only but I would like to try Numbers, Pages first.

Anyway, what do you suggest me to do, should I move directly to El-Capitan?

Regards.

TL/DR:Is El-Capitan suitable for a new mac owner (working as it pro for 10 years) who is targeting swift development.

Well, El Capitan comes with the new Xcode and the new APIs, so its a no-brainer to use it for new development, really. Unless you are only interested in targeting earlier OS X and iOS platforms.

well, is it possible to brick the macbook while trying to install el-capitan or returning back to yosemite? (possibly deleting the restore partition) Thats what I am afraid of.

It is very difficult to brick your Mac. Even if you delete your main partition and you recovery partition there is an internet recovery that you can use to restore.

I don't see any rush to switch version. If you just got your back, there is plenty to keep busy with until the final release. I do install the beta from time to time but always end up reverting at some point. So in the end, I waste time and nothing else. So unless you have multiple machines or virtual machines.. I would suggest staying in stable land! :)

thank you very much everyone, I am learning new things everyday. First I installed El-Capitan as an upgrade, then reverted back to Yosemite as I really wanted to get a fresh install. Now I am on El-Capitan with a fresh install. I know its not that hard but I managed to build a USB installer :d
I am quite happy that Swift ibook for pre release is also available.
