Hey guys!

Just installed El Capitan and it freed around 25 gigs of space for me on my Macbook Pro 15''.
Is this normal? I went from 25 gigs of free space to around 51 gigs. I'm a bit worried that I might have lost some important data or personal files? So far nothing seems to be missing ... still I'm curious.

Thanks in advance for your help

Maybe you had a huge cache that the system got rid of.
Hi KALLT! Seems that nothing is missing so that could be a possibility. Still, 25 gigs seems to be an awful lot. Anyond else got the same "problem"?

I remember seeing disk space free up when I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks with my ancient 2010 MBP 13".

Don't remember how much, probably around 5 gigs but it was enough for me to notice.

I bet it was some sort of sleep cache file... how much RAM do you have?

BTW I am upgrading from Yosemite as I write this write now! Wish me luck!

Hi CarreraGuy, thanks for the reply. I have 16 gigs of RAM in my machine. Good luck mate! And if you have a spare Carrera let me know!:)

The upgrade to El Capitan freed up around 20 GB's of free space for me too. Before I had around 66 GB's free, and now I have 86 GB free. I also have 16 GB of RAM.
Hi Brad! Thanks for the reply! Glad to hear I'm not alone. Won't complain about 20 gigs of free memory but thought it was quite odd as I could not find anything about this on the web.

Sounds like a cache error on your side. Glad el captain was able to give you some space.
I still gotta update my MacBook tonight when I get home. Looking forward to the new features.

Yeah, I'm guessing it mostly just cleaned out your sleepimage file, which, if you have 16GB of RAM, will be 16GB in size. After you use the computer for a while, it will build that file back up.
