I am trying to upload video footage from an SDHC card to my macbook. I have had no problem doing so up until updating to El Capitan OS X. iPhoto was replaced with Photos and this new app cannot recognize the videos on this SD card. Photos is the only app that opens upon inserting the card. It simply says "No Photos" although i have a bunch of video footage on there. So i search iPhoto on my macbook and it says I no longer have it because my version was not compatible with the new El Capitan update. So i press "search app store" and i am prompted with "this app is not yet available in the US" ??? I am so confused, so I go to the "update" section on the app store and it says i can update my iPhoto. When I click update I am then prompted with "This app cannot be updated because it was purchased with another apple ID or the purchase has been returned or cancelled." SOMEONE HELP.

As @Ritsuka mentioned, why not just do this manually. What happens when you double click the video, does it play? Perhaps the file itself is corrupted.

First, understand that iPhoto is discontinued and no longer supported so you should strongly consider moving to Photos or some other application.
To be able to update iPhoto to the version that works with 10.11, iPhoto needs to be showing in the "Purchases" section of the App Store application. If it's there, delete your existing copy in Applications, and then quit and reopen the App Store application. Then look in "Purchases" and you will be able to download the last version of iPhoto.

I had this problem. I updated from Snow Leopard to El Capitan and iPhotos would not work but was replaced with Photos which was a complete mess. But event hough I followed various steps, making a new admin, etc to try and make iPhotos work, it refused. But I saw that it was the 9.6.1 version of iPhoto (the latest update available with Yosemite) that I was missing, as I didn't update with Yosemite. Soooo, I did a search for downloading iPhotos 9.6.1 ;-) downloaded it, and it now works perfectly. :) I have not seen this method being mentioned in any forums, so thought you would like to know.

I like Photos way more than iPhoto. I didn't have any problems importing videos (of all types) from any mediums.

Odd!
