Spent three days trouble shooting withApple Senior Technical Advisor. Eventually reverted to Yosemite with advice to 'wait for a couple more versions before upgrading to El Capitan'. Total disaster.

An "Apple Senior Technical Adivsor" told you to wait for a couple more versions?

What were your problems by the way? "total disaster" is a bit vague...

Bluetooth keyboard wouldn't connect - had to use old Windows USB keyboard.
Other devices (iPads, iPhones and non-Mac laptops) had wifi problems.
Fortunately I had TimeMachine backups but some data was lost.
After first upgrade icloud.com mail details wiped from settings.
System re-start caused system to fail totally.
On reinstall no.3 (I think) it worked for 24 hours and at that time I thought it was great. I'd like to be able to use the new features, but guess I'll have to be patient, how long for who knows.

How is that even related to El Capitan? Devices running iOS or Windows machines seemingly having wifi issues...

Oh well...

From the very large majority of positive reports, I'd say your problems seem isolated, and somewhat still unclear - if true. You also forgot to mention your Mac model.

Very similar here too!
Causing all sorts of syncing issues, now cannot get iCloud working properly on my Mac and cannot sign out - but not because of the keychain getting stuck in the on setting as I've read. Nightmare. Bring back Yosemite
