Yes, don't worry about that. Macs have "real" multitasking and they always have, they can run many apps at once, the split-screen view in El Capitan is just a new way to view/utilize it.
(it's actually very unlike multitasking in iOS 9 which is a new technological development that only the most powerful iOS devices can handle)

Split screen is of course no problem.
But I doubt Microsoft office 2011 can support this feature.

It works on my late 2008 MacBook Air, and I'm sure it'll work on your MacBook. In fact, it should work on any Mac running El Capitan with 2 GB or more RAM.

Very early Macintoshes couldn't multitask, so they've haven't always been able to do that. The ability to multitask has been around a long time though, and I think many older iOS devices (such as the iPad Air, iPad mini 2, and iPhone 6+) are actually capable of Split View, but they've been excluded in order to push sales of new iPads.

does split view work like in Windows to place for example four Windows one at each corner?
I had been using Windows Magnet in all pre-El Capitan OS X, and would like to know if I can stop having that running.
