Hello ,

since i upgraded my 2012 mac mini to El capitan i get strange sounds of my thunderbolt display. For example if i delete a file i get a light crack then the delete sound and after this around 30 sec of an hissing noise out of my thunderbolt dispay speakers. If i change the sound output to my Edifier 730D then this cracking/hissing noise doesnt happen. The same hissing noise remains for about 30-33 sec after videoplayback in a safari tab.The same happens if i connect my macbook ret mid 2014 to the thunderbolt display.

On an external SSD i still have a copy of my last yosemite install and if i boot from it none of the above things are happening. What i've done till now is SMC reset , nvram reset , and today a clean install of 10.11.2 , the problem still persists. Is this a known problem? thank you very much for your help and excuse my english not a native speaker.

Best regards balooo

ps. i posted the same text on the official apple discussion forums.

Hello me again, it was a long weekend not so nice weather so a lot time for testing.I still have a 10.11.0 and a 10.11.1 installer.Played a lot around this weekend and had no sounds problem with 10.11.0 the problem was introduced in 10.11.1 and is persisting in 10.11.2.Now the question is if there is a remedy for this problem, or can it be solved just by apple.

Problem still there after 10.11.3 update released earlier today

You will agree by now that it doesn't seem to depend on the OSX update number you use.
Therefore the suggestion you received to have checked your hardware seems reasonable and logical.
Weaselboy tells you he uses it without suffering that problem.
Another proof.
Do you see another way to solve it than to have it checked by repair experts?

Good luck and hopefully it gets repaired soon!

Hello and thank you all for your responses.
Actually it depends on the version used , like i said before i still have a running 10.10.5 clone from september , and a 10.11.0 from before 10.11.1 on the external ssd and if i boot from there i don't have the disturbing sounds.Even if i clone on of those operting systems to my internal ssdeverything is fine none of those sounds can be heard.
We don't have an apple store here , just a premium reseller, i was there they acknowledged the problem, made a hardware test, the hardware is fine, and the conclusion was to wait for software updates because there are known problems with the usb part.
I still have problems with my eyetv hybrid, after some time i get "This channel is currently not available" so there is still something fishy with the usb part of El Capitan
