The guy in this vid said his laptop fell off the stand  I just ordered one of these yesterday..

"The stand is BAD because the computer slides off the stand. In the description of the video i say that my computer actually fell off at night and was damaged. I had another video where it slipped off by itself in real time but it was too long for Utube. It took about an hour to slide down without touching it."

I saw, that's why I deleted the post :p

I can't say much about the Elevator but I tried doing what he did with my MB on the iCurve (made by Griffin too) and it wouldn't budge :)

Of course it will slide off if you push and pull on it.

That video proves absolutely nothing.

that's why i didn't think of even posting it.. what troubles me is his comment that it has in fact fallen by itself

I've used an elevator forever, I love it. The part where your MB/MBP/PB/iBook sits has two rubber grips that prevent the notebook from slipping. It takes a considerable amount of force to actually move it by pushing/pulling when it's sitting on the stand.

Same here, I've been using one since July and never had it fall off or even look like it was going to. I guess it would be possible if something got on the rubber to make it not as sticky anymore, but as long as they don't get dirty or anything it shouldn't be possible.

I watched the same video when I purchased my Elevator for $40 of eBay. I thought it was funny how he was showing how it would slide off... when he pushed and pulled on his MBP. I don't think there is any great risk of your laptop falling off as long as you clean the rubber grips now and then (I have iCal remind me every week).

Call me slightly paranoid, but I also keep the 4 book collection from JRR Tolkein (in a book sleeve) in front of my elevator when I'm away just in case. But it has never moved a cm on the stand. Ever.

That's funny cause right now, my laptop stand is the whole Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. I'm about to get an elevator though :D

I can't say much, because I've only had the elevator stand for less than a month, but so far my iBook G4 hasn't moved an inch on the stand, even when I leave it on overnight. I have heard that the rubber pads can allow the laptop to slide if they get dirty enough. It would probably be a good idea to clean the pads once every few months, especially if you have a bigger laptop.
