I just installed Elgatos Eve Door and Window on my condo door. I have it set to lock the door on close. It works well, but if I go to take the garbage to the garbage chute, I don't want the door to lock, or I have to remember to take my front door key. Does anyone know a way to temporarily disable the device at point (at the door), even if it is by using a HomeKit button at the door.
Thanks

Can you link the product? I'm seeing the Eve Door and Window as a sensor.

Only advice I can give is trying a long/hard press the device in Home or Control Panel if you have an iPhone 6S or later. In that manor I get more HomeKit device control like color and dimming of lights.

No, I know about that. What I am looking for is a quick way to disable/enable it without going into the app. For example: a button I can attach to the inside of the door I press when (using the example I gave in my original question: to the garbage chute) to disable the sensor, and then again on return to enable the sensor.

Yeah, sorry without using it I can't help much other than things I would try. How about a Siri command?

You can try playing around with conditions inside the eve app under ‘rules’.

I think there's a crucial detail missing here that we can only infer from the original post. Does the door have a HomeKit compatible lock that is locked via automation when the Elgato sensor senses the door closing? Don't the door locks generally "know" that the door is closed by themselves?

I do have an August lock, which is Homekit compatible. It does not know if the door is open or closed. You can set it to automatically lock a certain amount of time after begin unlocked, but that is it.

Wow, that's a bit of a surprise and a disappointment in a way, although that may be because I have different assumptions.

Back to the case in point, I think one way to do this is to use a certain HK item's state (e.g. light is on/off) as a condition to be evaluated before actually locking the door.

That's not a bad idea. I do have Hue lights in the hallway. I could set the auto-off (have Hue motion sensors in the hallway as well to control the lights), and could use the light state as a trigger. I'll give it a try and post the result.

I have both an August Lock and the ElGato Eve Door and Window sensor working together. I have a HomeKit automation set up so that when the door closes, it checks to see if the August lock is unlocked and if so, it locks it. It works pretty well most of the time, usually in about 10 seconds or less. As a backup I have the August Lock set to lock after 90 seconds of being unlocked (this can be changed). Supposedly with iOS 11, as well as possible updates to the firmware of Bluetooth HomeKit devices, the reliability may improve further in the future.
