Even if he buys the entire company I'd think they'd still need to moderate content and couldn't just have an "anything goes" style otherwise Apple and Google would likely have reason to pull the apps from their app stores.

So Musk is preparing to take over Twitter, instead of starting his own (rumored) social network?
Starting his own social network wouldn't be hard, but getting users to join would be.

I would think that it is much easier to change an existing platform by throwing money at it, than build what could be a much better platform, but risk not having users follow.

This is what the problem is with the Twitter alternatives, they mainly attract users that had issues with Twitter's policies and biases, creating an echo chamber of similar thinking, philosophy, and ideas.

As people leave Twitter for other platforms, Twitter's own echo chamber is being created with those that remain (or more than it already was). Twitter is moving farther and farther away from reality.

Musk said himself that he considers Twitter a "town hall", it only makes sense (at least to me) that it is better to fix the town hall, and not create a separate town hall for each subgroup of thought.

I don't think this was ever his intent, and isn't how many of the Twitter alternatives operate.

Musk's and many other's complaint about Twitter is how censorship is used to destroy dissenting thought and opinions, making Twitter a platform for groupthink.

I think he just wants a platform for everyone, regardless of opinions.

Some moderation would be expected, but not at the level that Twitter currently operates.

Ok, what is broken with Twitter. It seems to be the same it was for 15 years.

But there is a difference in moderating content and simply blocking/banning things you don't like.

Twitter will only ban accounts that are blatantly breaking the rules. There is a lot you can say on Twitter. It's a fairly open forum.

It's hard to argue with this, they allow so much to the point that it's dangerous. My hope is, no matter who owns how much stock, is they leave key decisions to the board and not a single person such as Jack Dorsey or Elon Musk. There's too much responsibility to let ones personal views dictate the entire network.
