I have both my work exchange account and gmail account using the native mail app. It was solid in 12.4. They finally fixed the push notifications but when I often get a notification and open the mail app it has to download the email. Before anytime I got a notification and opened the mail app the emails where there. Also sometimes they will show up in the separate exchange and gmail inbox while not having to download into the all inbox folder until I wait a bit. Happened on both my Max and iPhone 11 pro max. Im on the final 13.1

same issue. why did they bother messaging with the push function for Exchange accounts? I cant get my work emails. Time to return the phone and go back to iOS 12 on my iPhone X.

Apple should make sure its software works before releasing phones.

I’m pretty sure it’s just the native mail app. I can’t use anything else for work email due to our policy.

I had to bin the native mail app after the latest iOS update.

I now use outlook, which is working well

Same for me. Bought a new iPhone 11 to give my daughter my Xr as she needed to replace a broken phone. Xr under 12.4 was flawless, this email issue is nonsense. Seemed like 13.1 fixed it temporarily but it’s back to downloading emails which seems to take forever even on basic text only emails.

13.1: Does this happen still with IMAP email, or is the problem limited to Exchange?

Update: Took the plunge, updated to 13.1 and it looks like my IMAP mail works.

Same issue...emails not downloading in my Exchange account. 13.1 didnt fix it as hoped. Deleted email account and set it up from scratch, emails still not downloading. I get the headers and multiple banner notifications for each message but audio notifications dont work. This has been a complete fiasco. How could Apple not have tested a basic component as their Mail app??

I updated to 13.1 this afternoon and I’ve been getting notifications and when I go into the mail app the message is sat waiting to be read so I’m confused why mine works!

Are you using exchange or gmail etc......

Trying deleting multiples using native iOS app with gmail. Previously you would select all and delete all. Now I see no option. Now I have to select a few and delete them that way or 1 by 1. WTH is going on?

My mail works (exchange and gmail), its definitely not broken, but it does show some weird behavior (undonwloaded messages, messages not labeled read after reading them, taking a long time to filter unread messages, etc) - there are definitely glitches which need to be addressed, and I am surprised that they are there in such a fundamental app such as mail.

In contrast i was having issues with the send cards and Outlook so tried the native app. Have exchange hosted by o365 for work and Hotmail. Works as it should.

In iOS 12 i get the notification that I have a new mail. Opening the mail app and I have to reload a few times until I see the mails. Same in iOS 13 but much worse

The only issue that I still have is the lengthy lag when toggling the unread email filter.

After reporting that I didn't have the issue, I just did but I now know the why.

If I leave the mail app running in the background, it notifies me but doesn't download the emails until I pull to refresh.

If I kill the mail app, it notifies me and when I open the mail app it has already downloaded the emails.

My issue is sound notifications on Exchange . I get the badge and fetch, but no sound . No issues with ICloud email. I've tried restart, turn notifications OFF and then back ON. Even deleted the exchange account. No joy!

Edit: Same issue with Outlook app. No sound notification.

Check in notification for mail that you have sound on the actual mailbox and also in "Favourite Mailboxes". Also make sure that a sound is actually selected.
