iPhone Email bodies not downloading in the mail app

For the past two days the mail app has been playing up, it download the header of the mail but often not the body of the message and instead just get the spinning wheel. This happens across all my various mail accounts.

I’ve tried closing the app and restarting, and also restarting the phone and it’s not helped. The messages download fine in the gmail app.

Does anyone know what the issue and how to fix it please?

A follow up to this, I’ve since deleted the mail app and reinstalled it, in the process deleting and restoring my various email accounts and I’m still having the same issues.

Messages eventually download after a couple of hours, likewise messages shown in the sent folder. I have message settings set to fetch as always, and if I drag down on the screen to manually download I just get the spinning wheel.

For comparison the Gmail app downloads instantly.

A further update, I deleted all accounts and installed one by one. My hotmail and my two business Gmail accounts work fine on the mail app, however my personal Gmail account does not. As far as I know all settings are the same as by business email accounts, the only difference is that my personal gmail is linked across all google sites/apps such as youtube, maps etc.

Does this help narrow it down?
