I just swicthed to a lower data plan. In order to save data, I have begun using my office's public guest wifi network while at my desk. I've noticed that I can't send or receive any emails using the stock iOS mail app. I'm using Yahoo, gmail, and an iCloud account. Nothing comes in or goes out, until I turn off wifi and jump on LTE for a few minutes. It's a big PITA.

I can verify that I can send and receive emails as normal when I'm at home on my own wifi network.

I've tried deleting and re-setting up my Yahoo email account (what a pain) and it didn't work. I've also noticed that my mail settings are set for oauth 2.0 authentication, rather than password. I can't change anything on that screen as it's all greyed out.

Note that I am using the Outlook app to receive my work email via the app. I do have my iOS calendar set to sync with my Outlook calendar. My company uses Office 365, so it's not an Exchange server ... I think.

Any clues and hints would be highly appreciated.

Your company does not allow SMTP or POP mail access. It's pretty common. Even on their "public" wifi, they block those ports.

another culprit could be a proxy server that uses a certificate that your phone does not trust

I suspect if this is the case, I won't be able to fix it. boo.

Is this something I could fix on my end?

Maybe try a vpn. Try downloading 1.1.1.1 faster internet from the App Store. This gets me around restrictions on some corporate wifi networks I connect to.

I think the proxy issue is more likely because I am facing same issue with mails as well as whatsapp.
both don’t connect or download messages on the company WiFi.
however the iOS updates OTA get downloaded without any problem.

Thanks for the suggestion for using VPN. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

I'm about to give up on this. Maybe I'll ask the IT guys the next time I see them.

Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 is a cool app (I use it), but it's not a true VPN.

Your corporate public wi-fi is probably blocking all ports except http and https (80 and 443), so you need to use VPN software that will let you run the VPN through one of those ports. My company guest wi-fi blocks everything except those ports, so I use IVPN on my iPhone and iPad and have it configured to use port 80. That allows me to check email whenever I want to.
