Email - Does anyone else have this issue?

I'm wondering if i should reset everything up from scratch but i thought i'd ask the MR gang first...

Email - I have the following problems:

Search - doesn't really work that well. I can pick a word (or name) I know that I have in an email recently (last 4 weeks) and it's very hit n miss if it'll show up in the search. It's really disappointing as Spotlight on OSX is quite brilliant. I know it's not exactly the same, but Apple clearly do know what a powerful search feature acts like. iOS is nowhere near that in my experience.

Missing email - I can look back and the last week or so will be there, every email, all in date order. Then going by date order there will be a gap (a few days or maybe a week) of emails. I have them on my mac, so they weren't accidentally deleted. Why does this happen? Another annoyance when you are on the road and need to refer back to an email for work. I think this is a bug, as there's no way that's normal, right?

If anyone has any tips of how to resolve these problems your input would be greatly appreciated. I'm a big emailer (for work) and this stuff really lets me down on occasion. Thankyou in advance.

You didn't say which mail interface(s) you're using. POP3 can cause issues with multiple clients, and exchange only synchronizes a few days of email by default (searching only works with whatever's synchronized).

I have iCloud, Exchange and GMail, but it's the iCloud mail that's the problem. I rarely use the other ones so not an issue for me.

I often have a problem with your first point as well. Searching just doesn't quite do the job, I often don't try any more on my iPhone because I don't trust the results.

Searching and sorting works great for me in Mail using Google Apps.

Don't know what to tell you. Try the GMail app.

I have iCloud, Exchange and GMail, but it's the iCloud mail that's the problem. I rarely use the other ones so not an issue for me.

I haven't seen any missing email issues with iCloud, but the iCloud searching seems to only search the "from", "to", and "subject" fields. The email body doesn't appear to be searched.

For missing email, check your settings and see how far back you have it to sync. Also, if there is a lengthy list of emails, you should notice a small-type option at the bottom to "load 25 more" until all your stored emails are listed.

ICloud doesnt have a setting for how far back to sync.

Not iCloud settings - I was referring to settings on your iDevice for mail.

There's an option to show a numer of messages - I have mine at 1,000 recent messages. I keep my email pretty cleaned out, so I won't ever reach 1,000. But at least I know I won't miss any.

Also, you need to go into your other "mailboxes" (drafts/sent/trash/and any others you created) and click the sync arrow periodically. I don't think mail is pushed to these because, every time I do this, there are more emails added.

I did make a mistake in my previous post, however. It's in iCloud's calendar setting (on the iDevice) where you can set how long to keep syncing past events. There, you can opt anywhere from 2 weeks to all events.

Whatever you set up in your iDevice settings will be backed up to iCloud backups.
