I'm trying to set my 5S so that I get on-screen notifications when the phone is asleep, but I don't get the pop-up notifications when the phone is awake or woken.

When it's asleep, I want to see the notification so I can decide whether I need to read the message. But what happens is that when I wake the phone, all of the notifications pop-up, and I need to clear them each, one at a time. It's a minor annoyance, but I'd like to avoid it.

Is this possible? I assume there is some setting in notifications that I'm missing.

Thanks, happy holidays.
