Hello

Enjoying my new life on iMac G5 Tiger ... just set up Mail 2.0, fairly impressed with it compared to MS Outlook Express. However, got tons of old emails I'd like to bring over from the PC to the iMac - anyone got any ideas of what to do?!

Thanks

Sam

There are a few ways you can do this...
When I switched I did a search in here to discover either:

1. buy some software e.g.PCToMac (I think or something).
2. or I did it the free way (but you need a .Mac account to be easy).
Exported from Outlook to Outlook Express.
I had multiple email accounts anyway.
Created in Outlook Express my new .Mac email (made it IMAP).

Then copied entire folders (just highlighted and dragged them) in Outlook Express from my then existing email folders to the new .Mac folders I'd created in Outlook Express.

This then sync'd with my online .Mac.
Then just opened up my PB (and Mail app) and voila they all appear...
they kept all the original dates / headers / and sender details.

You can export vCards as well if you want Contacts from Outlook.

I'm not at my Mac at the moment, but I'm quite sure there's an import function built into Mail (though I don't know about Mail 2.0, because I don't have Tiger yet). I also don't know if it works with Outlook. But you could have a look into it. The best way would be to network both your Mac and your PC.

Follow what DJY says and create a new e-mail account in Outlook Express for your new .mac e-mail. The important thing here is to make sure that you specify the new account as IMAP and not POP3. IMAP has the huge advantage over POP3 that it fully synchronises all folders.
Once you have the .mac account visible in OE then create a new folder and drag n drop a few e-mails into it. When you Synchronize, the e-mails will be uploaded into .mac IMAP server.
At your Mac, add the .mac e-mail account and then your folders will be downloaded.

Yes there is (2.0) and it comes up with a list of email clients from which you can import. Outlook Express is one of them. :)

Thanks all for the info ... managed to sync my .Mac and Outlook Exp, although did manage to seemingly delete a load of emails from .Mac into nowhere in the process. Still, better than a slap in the face ...
