I'm hoping some can lend some advice on two very annoying issues I am having.

1) Over the past few weeks I have noticed a lot of my deleted emails keep returning. And some times I have to delete them several times for them to stay deleted. These are gmail accounts.

2) For some reason my email app will stop getting emails. The only reason I notice this is because it will go 10-12 hours with nothing coming through. When I actually open the app it will say "problem contacting server". If I actually quit and app and remove it from my multitasking tray all of a sudden all of the emails will come in. I used to be able to leave the email app on my multitasking tray. Now I can't because it stops working after a few hours.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am using an iPhone 6s on latest iOS.

Since you can't use Push for Gmail in the stock Mail app anymore, you have to configure the Fetch interval. By default it is Manual which means it will only check when you open it.
Try the dedicated Gmail app and you can use Push.

I've always had it set to 15 minutes. Don't know what the problem could be now. And it's random. Doesn't happen all the time. Can go a few days with the app working then all of a sudden it won't work until I close it completely. Very annoying because I miss emails because of it.

Delete the email accounts and then set them up again. This has been the fix for myself.
