Whenever I send an email using Apple's Mail app (usually when sending a photo or link) it gets stuck in the outbox and never sends. I have to go in to the outbox manually and re-send again to get it to go. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix? I've tried resetting network settings and deleting both my gmail accounts and re-adding them and that did not fix it. This has been going on for at least 6 months and hasn't got fixed in the last few updates. I'm on iOS 9.2.1 and both my mail accounts are gmail accounts.

I only have this happen once in a while. My usual solution is to manually close the mail app from running in the background. Once I reopen it, all is good

I don't even use Mail.app so I never have it running in the background (I manually quit it). I just use it if I am sending an email out from an app and it gets stuck every time.

Try deleting the default email account in the mail.app, restart the phone, then add it again.

I had this problem both for ipad and iphone after changing the password in two accounts. For xxx@gogle.com I solved by deleting the account and re- adding the same with the new pw and tapping ON both for SMTP and SSL. The second account yyy@alice.it required to insert the pw two times: for the inbound server "in.alice.it" and for the outbound "out.alice.it"
